Drum Hell 2: Guinness World Record Breaking Charity Event

PMS Clan is proud to announce a charity weekend of historic Rock Band drumming, supporting the United Way Foundation with renowned gamers from H2O Clan. At approximately 9AM EST (-5GMT) on January 2nd 2009, Sean "H2O Phr34k" Feica and Calin "H2O Someguy913" Scoggins will begin playing Rock Band 2 on expert drums in a dual, competitive, effort to break the Guinness World Record for longest continuous Rock Band drumming on the Drum Hell 2 charity event!

Last July, Sean Feica astounded viewers by finishing all 235 Rock Band songs on expert level, to near perfectionand got immortalized in the 2009 Guinness World Records Gaming Edition for the 26.5 hour marathon. While still flushed with victory and short on sleep, H2O Phr34k announced plans for an even bigger, more impressive sequel in 2009. That promise has now evolved into the upcoming Drum Hell 2; the song odyssey is expected to last for an estimated 60+ hours and contain hundreds of thousands of notes.

With the addition of H2O Clan's newest member and arguably the best Rock Band drummer in the world, Someguy913; the event will take on a competitive angle as both drummers compete against each other head-to-head on their own custom kits with a high definition Sharp AQUOS TV. Songs will be played in order of increasing difficulty, bringing a whole new meaning to "save the best for last."

PMS Clan will be hosting the Drum Hell 2 online event, where viewers and donators will be able to watch the live stream in its entirety on the event's webpage. Spectators can also chat, keep track of progress with detailed scores, and donate to the marathon with all proceeds benefiting the United Way Foundation. The decision to have the United Way as the beneficiary for the Drum Hell 2 Charity event was simple for Sean.

"We decided to go with United Way because of their programs for those financially in need; for either schooling, housing, social works and/or community services." Feica said. "With the shape the economy is in, there is no better choice available in my eyes. The ability to help so many people across the nation from doing an event such as Drum Hell is more than worthwhile in the end."

With an estimated 530+ song titles available by January 1st, 2009, Drum Hell 2 will be THE definitive gaming event to mark the New Year as Sean and Calin prepare to set new World Records. dreamGEAR Releases Sweet Full Size Guitar Hero Controller

The people over at dreamGEAR have just released a pretty cool looking Guitar Controller fittingly named the WAR BEAST! Roooooarrr! It says that its the first full size Guitar Hero Controller which is not necessarily true, but the controller looks nice regardless. It is compatible with both Rock band and Guitar Hero games. The guitar looks very comfortable and like it would be great to play on. And at $129.99 it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the real fullsize guitar controllers that others offer.

Its crazy how quickly time passes. In a few hours it is going to be 2009. This year has had ups and downs like most. Working on the site the has been awesome this year, and we'll keep it going for 2009.

Im in Philly right now with my girlfriend about to get completely ridiculous and hit up some bars. See whats going on to bring in the new year.

What do we have to look foward to:
Guitar Hero Metallica (should be sweet)
Guitar Hero Modern Hits (not a huge fan of handheld anymore)

The new site we got a couple months ago has a nice little feature that few people use.

Create your Own Blog
The new site was designed to be a collaborative blog and community for Guitar Hero news and information. This means any user can create their own blog about Guitar Hero or whatever you would like. Show off your videos, screens, stories, opinions, and instead of having to email me about GH news stories, you may post them yourself on your own blog! For the old schoolers who like the way the old site was, you can view the main Guitar Hero News blog only where i will be continuing to post the latest GH news just like its been! I know there were a couple weird posts that showed up in the past, but from this moment on the blog will be moderated for stupid **** to keep the site clean and fresh.

The Contest
Now let me tell you about some of the benefits of posting blogs on Guitar Hero News. There happens to be a no strings attached contest running on GameRiot right now with $1500 in cash prizes. Meaning they send you a check in the mail if you win. The contest is simple, whoever gets the most views on their blog wins the cash. What makes a good blog post?
If you are thinking about posting some blogs, Ill give ya some tips.

Interesting content gets views. Breaking GH news stories, amazing GH videos, original/personal experiences, controversial thoughts and opinions and get views.

When you write your post, think if you would like to read it while on the site.

And most importantly, make it so people can actually read the post. Keep things organized in sections or paragraphs. Ive seen random gibberish posted and huge blocks of un-paragraphed text. It just make it more difficult to read. So try and keep posts organized. I always like to include videos or pictures in the posts, as there is pretty much always something visual that can be used to enhance the experience. You can use my blog as an example, or even take a look at other gamriot sites to see what they are doing.

Im looking to get a good community going for Guitar Hero people with a good flow of news and info on the blog as well as get a good forum going. If you havent signed up yet you can register here. And if you want to start bloging and win some money you can create a blog here. I will definitely help promote any good blogs that get going also Since I'd rather see a Guitar Hero fan win!

The Economic Crisis Finally Hits Home

Well ladies and gentleman, it looks like I will finally have some extra time to work on the site. I know the past few months ive been somewhat neglecting the site, missing tons of news, giving you bits and pieces here and there, but nothing too substantial. I apologize for the lack of updates the past few months. But that will soon come to an end...

The economic crisis has finally reached me. Come January 1st I will no longer be employed. I work at a small party store chain in the northeast (NJ and NY) and was just told my hours would be cut from 35 hours a week to about 7, which just doesn't work for me making $8 bucks an hour. The damn store I work for did not even have a bad year only finishing $200 dollars under last year, but the owners, who have to pay for their penthouses in new york and such, want to be prepared. Therefore they decide to **** the people making $8 bucks an hour over by cutting hours drastically. But business is business, and i understand that. Thankfully im 20 years old and dont have a **** load of bills, mortage, rent, or **** to pay yet other than a few bills (cell, insurance, webhosting,ect) unlike the 5+ people i know that will be losing their house within the next few months.

Luckly A couple weeks ago I applied for an internship at an internetmarketing company called Single Throw which told me I would know if i got the job come the first week in jan. If so, it would work out perfect. If not, im financially ****** for the forseeable future becuase literally noone is hiring right now. and ive been looking to upgrade my $8 an hour job for a while now to no avail.

But not all is doom and gloom. No Job = More time for Guitar Hero News. and giving you readers the attention and updates that I simply lacked the time and energy for in the past. As well as further pursuing my dream of owning a successful internet based company specifically based in the video game area (which you will definitely be hearing about in the future).

Over the nextfew months I will be making as many improvements to the site as i possibly can as well as steady updates. If you have any suggestions for the site or anything you think could be improved please email me personally at Brendan@guitarheronews.com and I will do my best to make any suggestions a reality.

I apologize for such an off-topic and personal post, but it was just something i needed to write.

Axl Rose Doesn't like Guitar Hero

Looks like Axl Rose doesnt like GNR in Guitar Hero. In this extremely long forum post he address is a number of issues and questions, including Activision and Guitar Hero. Check out the excerpt below!

"...unless its being done at my expense...or to keep him associated [with GnR] as in Guitar Hero. Him being Guitar Hero's fine but not when Activis[i]on i[s] using Jungle , having Yahoo use Sweet Child unauthorized, claims no involvement with Slash, his or anyone's image or VR or anyone or anyone's music in either camp in promotion or commercials etc. I wasn't broadsided. I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That's some low life chicanery on all their parts.

Yes Slash was in Guns and on Jungle (and the whole I came to him for his riff is as much crap as him saying he brought Locomotive and Coma in as complete songs) and he has rights to perform it but not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren't granted the license it'll take some sorting.

Universal has Guns under contract but I own the name. "

Guitar Hero 5 announced from Activision

We know that Activision said they were going to triple the amount of Guitar Hero games in the next few years, so there was definitely going to be a "Guitar Hero 5". Check out what they said.

"At the meeting, Activision Blizzard showcased new games that would make sense for in-game ads, including the vaguely titled Guitar Hero 5, which included a screen shot of gameplay with a Burger King ad to the right of the note highway."

Looks like we are going to see ads in games. I don't really mind, kinda think that well incorporated ads can add an authenticity to it.

As I am sure you can all see, the people at GameRiot just released a brand new website for Guitar Hero News as well as the rest of the Game Riot Community!

The new site has a ton of new features to keep you entertained.
+We have a voting system called "Likes" that let you vote up and view the best content to kinda separate it from the crap.
+The bar at the bottom now gives you updates and shows the latest comments on the site as well as friend requests (Send me one), message inbox, and subscriptions (Subscribe to GHN)!

The stage really has some character to it also, with the logo and crap on the walls, it is very unique in its own. I would absolutely love to see a show at Amoeba music. Many Drum Problems Reported with Guitar Hero World Tour

As its been rumored, there have been many complaints about the new Guitar Hero World Tour Drum Kit on the official messageboards. Most issues include sensitivity issues with the drums, as well as problems registering hits.

Activision responded by With
"We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages. While we believe that this was an isolated manufacturing issue, we are stepping our efforts to randomly test our drum kit controllers so customers can be assured they work properly. In the event any consumers do experience problems with their drum kit controllers associated with sensitivity issues, Activision will soon be offering a drum tuning kit that will enable players to fully optimize their drums."

That really sucks to finally get your game and realize it is not woking.

If you have problems with your set, you can contact Activision:
"Consumers should visit the Activision Publishing customer support website at www.activision.com/support website or call 310 255-2050 in the U.S. where a customer care representative will assist them."

Hopefully this is true, and the issues are not more serious. Im sure they will get everyones fixed up in no time.

PS3 Rockband with Guitar Hero Drums....and Drum sensitivity update!!!

It's been mentioned since the release of Guitar Hero World Tour that the drum kit, for the PS3 version, will not work with Rockband. Nothing has been too official about it until now. Here's a the LINK to the official story.

Not only are the reports confirmed about this issue, but it is a deep seeded issue with how Rockband is coded for the PS3. Rockband needs to undergo a software update in order to allow the drum kit for Guitar Hero to work. Hopefully Rockband will come out with an update quickly. The XBOX version, however, is unaffected by this issue - it would be nice if someone knew the technical contrast between the two consoles, to explain why the drums would work with one, but not the other with the same game.....very interesting.

On yet another note. There is an update available for GH: World Tour, which allows the ION drum set to work with the game. I would LOVE to buy this bad boy, but I just don't have a $300 bomb to drop. You can view this beauty HERE.

Personally, I will definitely be getting Rockband once i've thoroughly played through GH, just because I can't get enough music....I have an XBOX muahahaha!!!

--------Drum Update--------

Ok...The Drum Truning Kit, which you can read about HERE, is now available, but you need a MIDI usb interface, to connect it to your computer. Using the downloadable program, you can set the sensitivity of your drums. The catch is, if you don't have a MIDI usb interface and i'm sure many of you don't, you'll have to request one from the Activision Support site HERE.

Drum Kit Tuning Tool

There have been lots of reports now about the Guitar Hero: World Tour drum kits being defective on first release. I didn't want to put anyone off to the game with these negative developments, but now I am able to sugar coat it a bit and thought you should know what the deal is.

Activision has been hammered with support questions regarding the sensitivity of drum kit and they finally decided to do something a little more pro-active. You can read the full article HEREand you can post any issues you're having with your drums at the official Support site.

Here's the candy: Activision announced that they are going to release a "drum tuning kit". No information is available for when, but the fact that they are going to make one, is something I think a lot of gamers will be happy to hear. I know I am, since the red pad on my kit lacks some sensitivity, meaning I have to hit it harder to get it to register a note in the game.

Found this just as it released (how lucky!!). Neversoft, to celebrate the release of Guitar Hero World Tour, has provided 2 new free songs for download. Both bands originating from the developers within Neversoft... You can read the full story here.

Premium Guitars?

I just happened to run across this today. Logitech is in the process of making premium guitars for guitar hero. Some features include: a wood neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and metal frets AND it's wireless, of course.

There are many improvements to make the guitar more realistic and you can read about it hereand the Logitech Blog.

It seems to be running a bit on the pricey side ($250) though the materials used are to make it as close to a real guitar as possible. I'm a die hard fan, but I don't think I can see myself spending that much for a glorified toy. However, since I have an XBOX 360, I don't really have a choice, since this bad boy is ONLY for playstation 2 and 3 (a bit dissapointing i'd say).

Guitar Hero World Tour gets Oasis Track pack DLC

Just announced that Guitar Hero World Tour will get a track pack by the band known as Oasis. It will be a normal 3 song track pack.

The Songs include:

Oasis Track Pack

"Bag it up" - Oasis
"Waiting for the Rapture - Oasis
"The Shock of the Lightning" - Oasis

The pack is to be released November 4th, 2008 on the XBOX Live and PS3 Online Stores.

There is also a full album DLC to be released sometime in 2009.

Activision Trademarks "Guitar Hero Modern Hits"

With the news in the past that Activision is going to triple its Guitar Hero Titles by year 2010, it looks like they will be trademarking new names a lot in the future. The title trademarked was "Guitar Hero Modern Hits".

The descriptions in the files included: "computer game software and related instruction manual sold together as a unit," "interactive video game programs," "downloadable computer game software," "video game controllers," and "interactive video game comprised of a cartridge or DVD sold as a unit with a video game controller."

I guess were going to see a GH Modern Hits coming sometime. What song would you say is a modern hit?

Welcome, Ladies and Gentleman, to the brand new Guitar Hero News website. The wonderful people over at Giant Realm have set us up with this awesome new website and include us in their network of user driven game blogs. The new site has a bunch of new features including a Guitar Hero Forum, messaging, friends, photo and video uploading, the ability to create your own blog, and a bunch of other cool crap.

First, although it may be annoying to some, to get the most out of the site, ya gotta register for a free gameriot account. In return, You will receive access to all the featues above. Don't worry, if you dont feel like registering, you can still read everything, but its a good idea to get an account. Its pretty quick and painless.

During the next week or so there will be many changes and updates as I learn how to use the everything. Forums will definitely be updated. So stay tuned for details.

Today Activision released info about launch DLC titles they within the weeks after the new Guitar Hero World Tour game hits shelves. The artists include R.E.M., Blind Mellon, and other classic rock tracks in a classic rock pack! Here is a rundown of the songs that will be available for download on the new game. R.E.M. Track Pack Tracks are off their new album Accelerate.

"Horse to Water" - R.E.M.
"Man Sized Wreath" - R.E.M.
"Supernatural Superserious" - R.E.M.

JamLegend.com Lets you play Guitar Hero Online

I was surfing around the net the other day when I stumbled across this website I had never heard before called Jam Legend. JamLegend.com is a website that lets you play a Guitar Hero style game online in your browser. The website is not currently open to the public yet as it is still in beta testing. Luckly I snuck in through a beta invite. The online game is full of fun features to give you a very rounded and community based gaming experience. It has stat tracking and a ranking system to provide incentive (everyone wants to be #1). You can earn "groupies" by completing certain achievents within the songs and throughout the website. You can even "duel" other members to see who is better! The site contains many features that are available in social networks like friends, followers, and your very own profile. The actual playing of the game of the game is very good and pretty fun for a browser based game. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, but it is definitely learnable. The buttons are numbers 1-5 on the top of the keyboard, and the strumming part that actually plays the note requires you to hit the enter button. They also show you different ways you can hold the keyboard including 1 style that requires picking up your keyboard and holding like an actual Guitar! I was very impressed with the creativity in that one although I am unable to try it at the moment (on a laptop). As far the song list that will be available goes, they dub it as unlimited. Currently there are 35 songs in total available for play which I am positive will increase when the site is released to the public. From the setup of the site it looks like you will be able to find songs in any major genre christian, country, rock, hip-hop, and a myriad of others which will give appeal to all kinds of different musical tastes. At the moment I am thinking that most of the songs that will be included are going to be from lesser known artists as none of the songs on there looked familiar to me. This is definitely not a bad thing as the music was of high quality and pretty decent. You may even find a couple new artists you may like. Metallica's Death Magnetic sounds better on GH?

Metallicas Death Magnetic album holds down a second week atop the national sales chart, which may be music to the ears of the speed metal band and its record label, but not to a growing number of fans who are squawking about what they're hearing. The album, which sold an additional 370,000 copies last week after moving 490,000 during its first three days in stores, is the subject of an online petition decrying the sound quality and demanding that it be remixed or remastered and re-released with improved audio. That petition contained more than 10,000 signatures as of this afternoon...

The debate swirling across the Internet also claims that a different version of the album, one that can be downloaded from the Guitar Hero III website for the Xbox and PlayStation game systems, sounds markedly better than the CD version or the conventional download. The thrust of the complaints is that the music has been sonically compressed reducing the natural difference between the loudest and softest sounds so that it would sound as loud as possible on CD. In addition, many are grousing that the guitars and drums are audibly distorted not the usual distortion employed intentionally by so many rock acts, but audio signal distortion created in the studio when the volume is artificially kicked up during the mixing or mastering process. Death Magnetic producer Rick Rubin so far has opted not to comment. Were checking with the bands representatives to see what Metallicas take on the issue might be. Stay tuned. Activision's People Speak About Guitar Hero World Tour

I found a pretty cool interview on 1up.com that features the Guitar Hero World Tour project manager Brian Bright as well as Activisions main PR man Aaron Grant. A few points i found interesting were: The song creation and uploading will be monitored for copyright issues. Meaning if you cover a song and upload it, there is a chance it will be taken down. I guess we will have to see how strict they are and how many artists, publishers, and whoever else start complaining. In choosing the song list for the game they said they started with over 500 songs which included suggestions from previous Guitar Hero games that didn't make the cut, employees, and artists. Then they slowly start cutting it down until they get a good refined song list. They look at each section of the songs, guitar, bass, drum, and vocals and try to find songs that incorporate them all in a diverse manner that would make gameplay fun. Noone wants to sit and play the same drum beat over and over.

We still want to appeal to those people and make a compelling single-player game. So if it's got great guitar parts, if it's got a legendary guitarist in it, if it's got epic solos, we want to use that. If it's got a great drum beat, a really changing drum beat with good fills, a really dynamic drum beat, we'll put that up on the list. If it has a really good driving bassline that really changes up a lot, we want it. Some songs have a really great bass line, but it's the same two-measure loop over and over. That's not fun to play. But if it's really funky, we want that. And if it's got all three of those, it's really a winner.

They mentioned that Jimi Hendrix was the hardest to get licensing to be in the game. Im glad they were able to get that worked out. Its definitely a pretty interesting read and gives you a cool look into some of the developmental parts of the game.

Amoeba Music Stage to be in Guitar Hero World Tour & Free Shirts

Let me first start off by saying that coming from living in Jersey practically my entire life, I have never really heard of Amoeba Music before a couple days ago. Amoeba Music is a small chain of independent music stores with locations in Berkeley, San Fransisco, and Hollywood in the great state of California. A couple days ago I recieved an e-mail from an Amoeba Music street team member asking me to give them a shout out on the site becuase their Amoeba Music Venue was going to be a playable venue in Guitar Hero World Tour. How i missed this news previously? I do not know. Before I post about something, I obviously like to read up on it a bit. After reading, Amoeba Music looks like an awesome place. Amoeba music sells and buys cd's, vinyl, movies, and more. They also hosts live events at their stores and have hosted artists such as Floggin Molly, The Shins, and Paul McCartney! They also have in store music stations where you can listen to pretty much anything you want. I read one person mention they also had a freakishly knowledgable staff working there. It sounds like a cool place to go an I would love to check it out some day. In celebration of their inclusion in Guitar Hero World Tour, Amoeba Music is giving away free T-****s with all Guitar Hero World Tour Pre-orders, unfortunately the free shirts are only given with in-store pickup of the game. I would definitely check that out though if I could. I may be able to get some shirts from Amoeba Music and if I do i'll give some of them away! Stay Tuned for details on this. And to end on another note I was also impressed with their charitable efforts, as well helping promote new and upcoming music in the area. Definitely sounds like a good place. Guitar Hero World Tour DLC song storage info for Wii users

For all you Wii users out there who are planning on getting the Guitar Hero World Tour Band Kit. Here is some alittleinformation on storing DLC on your Wii. Saving on SD cards is the way to go if you plan on downloading a lot of songs. The Wii system memory is then used as a content cache. This means you only need to have the free space for one song in the Wii system memory (about 200 blocks). The game automatically transfers the song plays the song, and deletes it when youre done. It all happens pretty quickly. - Karthik Bala, Vicarious Visions This way you can have your own personal GH song lists in storage. Sounds like a great way to build up a descent catalog of titles. Ranter's GH Movie Pitch Denied!

Rush Hour director Brett Ratner has been denied the chance to direct a film based on the "Guitar Hero" video game series. Ratner tells Entertainment Weekly that "I'd really like to do it, but they're not letting me... I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it.... The game is wish-fulfilling, everyone can be a rock star... I might prevail... I usually do." Ratner's schedule remains busy however with a fourth "Beverly Hills Cop" and an adaptation of the video game "God of War". Editor Note: Thank the lord!

Activision Plans to Triple Amount of GH Games by 2010!

Activision Blizzard announced during the company's analyst day that they plan to triple the number of Guitar Hero titles on the market by 2010. By the end of 2008, there will be four "Main" Guitar Hero titles out, two ancillary titles (Guitar Hero: Rock the 80's and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith) and one handheld title for the Nintendo DS. That is seven games, which meansby 2010, there couldbe 21 Guitar Hero games out.Unless we are looking at including DL content. This will probably include a lot of GH titles by individual bands, ala Aereosmith. Which couldinclude the proposed Metallica title that we have beenhearing about for releasefor early 2009. The growth will be accomplished by bringing in more developers and more hardware suppliers. I hope that if they plan on releasing this many titles in the next 2 years that they wont skimp on the quality like Encore the 80's lacked. But I am optimistic that since theimprovement of GH3, Aerosmithand the upcoming World Tour that the upcoming titles will have the improved quality that those have.
